Student Responsibilities

CAS Self-Review

At the beginning of Year 1, IB diploma candidates do an initial CAS Self-Review by answering several sets of questions. This process helps them build an inventory of activities they have participated in, as well as possible areas of involvement they may wish to explore through the program.

Year Plan

DP candidates fill out a Planning Form that lists the possible activities they plan to take on for CAS, as well as the potential supervisors for each of these activities. (Check out this list of potential activities for Creativity, Action, and Service for ideas on what you can do. Choose the ideas that interest you and add it to your planning form.) Download the form, fill in the details, sign it, get it signed by your parent/guardian, then present it to your CAS Adviser for your 1st Interview.

CAS Activities

For each activity, a student must:
  1. Submit a proposal and get it approved before beginning any work.
  2. Keep a monthly journal and activity log for each activity.
  3. Write a final reflection about an activity within two weeks of its completion.
  4. Get a supervisor's evaluation for feedback on one's participation.

CAS Interviews

Throughout the two years of the CAS program, DP candidates will go through 3 interviews with the CAS Coordinator (or their respective CAS advisers, if available.)

1st Interview (Year 1, 1st semester)

2nd Interview (Year 1,  2nd semester)

3rd Interview (Year 2, 2nd semester)

Documentation & Evidence

DP candidates are expected to keep a complete, up-to-date record of all CAS activities, documents, and evidences of work done. They should be able to present their body of work when asked to do so for a number of reasons, such as for verification with the records kept by the CAS Coordinator.
